What is a Load Moment Indicator?
A Load Moment Indicator (LMI), also known as a Rated Capacity Limiter (RCL) or Rated Capacity Indicator (RCI), is an electronic safety system installed on mobile cranes, tower cranes, excavators, and manlifts. It continuously monitors the critical parameters that determine safe lifting operation: load weight, boom angle, boom length, radius, and the actual rated capacity at the current configuration.
Why LMI is Mandatory for ARAMCO Operations
Saudi Aramco's lifting operations standard requires all mobile cranes operating within Aramco facilities to be equipped with a functioning, calibrated LMI system. This is not merely a recommendation - it is a hard stop condition. Cranes without a properly functioning LMI will not be permitted to operate.
